Love Your Park Week
Want to feel appreciative of the many beautiful parks in Philadelphia? Then check out Love Your Park week! Love Your Park week is an ongoing citywide celebration that is happening right now till May 19th. It celebrates all of Philadelphia’s different parks with included features such as educational programs, service projects, family events, tours, and so much more. This event was initiated by the Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Fairmount Park Conservancy, and the Philadelphia Horticultural Society. Austin carefully selects locally grown organic fruits and vegetables that meet her highest criteria. Beck has always been a little different. From his distinct voice and lyrics, diverse range of musical styles, and funky collaborations, there’s not many stranger in the business. He rarely tours and hasn’t come out with an album since 2008′s Modern Guilt. So it makes sense that he would only have two east coast shows scheduled for the summer. Conjunto Philadelphia Ensemble Performance at Chris’ Jazz Cafe
Chris’ Jazz Cafe, a local jazz club, will feature a music ensemble called Conjunto Philadelphia this Friday night on May 11th. The music event will start at 8pm and end at 11:30pm. Conjunto Philadelphia is a Philadelphia based ensemble that performs music from the Pre-Revoluntionary Cuba period. 2012 Design Exhibition, If/Then, by UArts Graduating Students
Want to see some real creativity from art design students? University of the Arts, a higher education institution centered in the arts, will feature this year’s 2012 Design Exhibition on May 11th from 6pm-9pm, 17th from 4pm-7pm, and 18th from 12pm-5pm. This Saturday, April 28, Philabundance and PYT come together for the second annual “Cupcake Smash!” This year’s participants will be judged on their creative awesome-ness. The Portrait Society of America Comes Back to Philly
For the third time, the Portrait Society of America is returning to Philadelphia to host its annual conference, The Art of the Portrait. The purpose of the Portrait Society is to “foster and enhance an understanding of the practice, techniques and applications of traditional fine art portraiture and fiurative works.” Portrait Society chose Philadelphia because of its unique and rich art community, and is excited to host the conference over the Memorial Day Weekend. The conference starts on Thursday, May 24th at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel at 5:00PM, with the Face-Off — a demonstration of 15 falculty artists painting from colonially-dressed models to celebrate the rich history of Philadelphia. Old City Galley Hosts Event to Benefit Parkinson’s!
Catherine and Danny Dumoff have discovered a unique approach to benefit the fight against Parkinson’s Research — selling restaurant equipment supply overstock for a relatively inexpensive price. Danny Dumoff owns the Economy Restaurant & Bar Supply and donates its overstock merchandise to the Old City Galley. 100% of all the profits coming out of this store are donated to the Parkinson’s Mobility Ward at Pennsylvania Hospital. So far the Dumoffs have raised 15,000 dollars at their discounted store, the Old City Galley, and they’re not stopping there! The Philadelphia Wine Festival, one of the most anticipated tasting events in the Philly region, is right around the corner – on Saturday May 5th at the Lincoln Financial Field.
