Shaq’s Jersey Retired

images-9 (1)

At long last, the LA Lakers have paid tribute to one of the greatest centers of all to ever play the game. Last night as a tribute to his accomplishments, living legend Shaquille O’Neal officially had his No. 34 jersey retired at the Staples Center. The fact that Shaq is one of the greatest centers of all time goes without question, and with the frame of a Greek god, the 7 ft goofball has surely sealed his place in NBA history.Shaq’s illustrious career started off in Orlando, where he easily won rookie of the year honors. He and penny Hardaway led the magic to consecutive playoff berths, and during the 1994-95’ season, they somehow managed to more »

Get well soon Ware

A team is more than just a collection of players, it is a brotherhood. A bond between a select few, all of whom are hell bent upon reaching their goal. It is said that any true player would gladly sacrifice himself, or his personal glory for the greater good of the team. Last night, Louisville showed us what being a “team” is all about. Heading into the game, it was clear that each of Louisville’s players would have to perform at peak levels to conquer Coach K’s Blue Devils. Always a favorite, Duke’s talented squad posed a serious threat to Rick Pitino’s hopes of advancing; but with the hot hand entering the tournament, Louisville was composed and more »

Tiger back at No.1

images-8 (1)

It’s been a long time coming, but after a fiasco of scandalous love making, horrible gameplay, and emotional turmoil, Tiger Woods has found himself back where he belongs- at the pinnacle of the golf world. It’s hard to imagine the feeling of having an entire nation despise you. For a while, golfs “golden child” was considered to be lower than dirt by every woman in the country. Activist groups pushed to have him banned from the sport, and his family was left to suffer the consequences. But the truth of the matter is, Tiger didn’t technically commit a crime. He didn’t steal anything, kill anyone, or break any laws. In all honesty, he was just being more »

Bynum out for Season

NBA: Philadelphia 76ers-Media Day

It has been said that no matter the state of any given situation, things could always get worse. Unfortunately for Andrew Bynum and the Philadelphia 76ers, this sad truth has become a reality. After a tumultuous season of rehabilitating both of his knees, it has been concluded that the former Laker (and 2-time NBA champion) will have to undergo season ending arthroscopic surgery. Thus crushing all hopes of what should have been a highly effective season for the Philly faithful. The 7-footer was acquired in a 4-team, 12 player trade which sent Dwight Howard to LA, and brought Bynum to the city of brotherly love. In desperate need of an effective big man, Philly viewed Bynum as the more »

Flyers Wives Fight for Lives Carnival

The 36th annual Flyers Wives Fight for Lives Canival took over the Wells Fargo Center on March 3rd for another fun-filled day of hockey activities. As one of he oldest, most successful charity organizations in the NHL, and all professional sports, this carnival has been a highly anticipated event held every year since February 1, 1977. Sadly, during it’s first year of existence, Flyers’ own Barry Ashbee died of Leukemia, which pushed the charitable focus of the Flyers Wives Carnivals to new heights for years to come. Ever since then, the Flyers’ wives, girlfriends, and family have put together a fund-raiser of epic proportions. The carnival and the committee of wives have prevailed through numerous lockouts, trades, injuries more »

Philadelphia’s own La Salle University was taken over by celebration during the Saint Patrick’s Day weekend, when they were chosen to be in the NCAA tournament. When Butler beat the Explores 69-58 in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals Friday, the Explorer Nation had to wait for their fate because it was not clear if they were going to be taking a trip to the NCAA’s. La Salle was left to see how the selection committee would evaluate their resume. During the season La Salle beat their fellow bubble team Villanova in a nonconference game in the beginning of the season.  Along with their regular season win over Butler and VCU who was ranked 25th during the A-10 season.  La Salle’s Explorers unfortunately took devastating more »

Dunk of The Year

In the NBA, there are dunks, posterizations, and then… there’s the absolute disregard for human life. Last night, D’Andre Jordan of the LA Clippers sealed his place in Dunk history, after throwing down what most critics (including LeBron James) are claiming to be the dunk of the year. By now, it’s evident that Lob City has earned full rights to their self-proclaimed title. CP3’s ball handling skills, in combination with Blake and D’Andre’s leaping ability have made for nothing less than an endless reel of highlights; and by now, one would think that the league has taken notice. Butt apparently, Pistons rookie Brandon Knight failed to read the memo. While running back on defense, an attacking Chris more »
