Philly DJ Profile: DJ Touchtone, Philly’s Own Incredible Blind Disk Jockey

DJ Touchtone, born Anthony Stevenson in Philadelphia during the late 1970s has always had a passion for music. As a visually impaired 13-year old born blind, Stevenson spent his childhood unable to participate in what kids love to do, let alone confidently leave his front stoop. Days spent inside his home finding ways to entertain himself, and religiously listening to the radio cultivated Stevenson’s love for the joy and euphoria the sound of music brought to his ears. It was then that the transformation from Anthony Stevenson to DJ Touchtone would begin, as the 13-year-old one day ruined his mother’s Rick James Street Songs record the first time he encountered the three staples of any DJs repertoire; a turntable, a record, and the passion and flow all DJs share.
Now considered ” The World’s #1 Blind DJ,” as it boasts on his personal website, inspiration from the likes of Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and DJ Jazzy Jeff have influenced Touchtone’s ability to develop the incredible skill to mix, spin, edit and produce his own music. Most incredible of all, DJ touchtone memorizes his music and catalogues systematically to competently create some of the hottest mix shows on the East Coast.
DJ Touchtone’s continual forward momentum, passion, and of course dedication to music has landed him on such shows as BET’s “Rap City the Basement,” MTV’s “Making the Band” as a judge, and local Philadelphia television networks FOX 29 and ABC 6 for shows “Good Day Philadelphia” and “Visions” respectively. Touchtone has also been featured in popular music magazines “The Source” and “XXL“.
Still in the music scene to this day, DJ Touchtone offers his DJ services to a wide variety of occasions including but not limited to community events, weddings, private parties and organized dances. Click HERE to book DJ Touchtone for your next event!
